Edwin H. Zarka, Sr. 72, of rural Ottawa, died Tuesday, July 10, at his home.
Mr. Zarka was born on October 16, 1939, in Ottawa to Joseph and Elizabeth (Schunke) Zarka. He worked at Libbey Owens Ford, AT&T as an electrician, Somonauk High School in Maintenance and Rutland School in Maintenance. He served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He married Sharon Reynolds on September 3, 1966, at St. Mary’s Church in Naplate. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, American Legion Post 33, and the Sheridan Rod and Gun Club. He was especially proud of serving his country for 4 ½ years and spending his years of service at the Panama Canal. In his spare time he loved fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was talented in woodworking and ceramics.
He is survived by a son Ed Zarka, Jr. two daughters, Holly Zarka, and Fawn (Bill) McGeorge, all of Ottawa, two grandchildren, David Zarka, and Jacob McGeorge, and one sister, Jodine (David) Simon of Balston Spa, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Sharon, on Nov. 13, 2010, and his brother, Joseph. Memorials may be directed to the family
