Edwin G. “Eddie” Sellke, 89, of Freeport, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born April 5, 1917 in Freeport he was the son of Edwin and Irene (Prante) Sellke. He married Marjorie “Bonnie” Tallman March 16, 1941 and she died May 23, 1990.A life time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church he attended their school as young man. Eddie worked 23 years for the Freeport Journal Standard; 12 years at the Rockford Register Star as an area circulation and office manager; he managed the sheltered workshop for 2 years; worked at Walker Mortuary for 2 years, and for 2 years was a salesman at Lameyer Appliance. He was with the Military Police as a Staff Sergeant in WWII from 1941-1945 at Camp Pickett, VA.A member of Golden K. Kiwanis he did volunteer work for Malcolm Eaton Enterprise and the Freeport Senior Center. An ardent sportsman he was past president of the Senior Bowling League.
Surviving are his sisters, Patricia (Thomas) Bordner and Elaine (Clinton) Miller both of Freeport; numerous nieces and nephews; and his long time close friend, Annie Downing of Freeport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one brother.
