Edwin Asistio Solano, 66 of Jersey City, NJ passed away on August 17, 2022, at Overlook Medical Center, Summit. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his strength and courage in facing life challenges with a smile and gratefulness for all those around him.

Many years ago, Edwin had garnered the nickname Edong Mapangarap – Edwin the Dreamer. Edwin loved talking about his dreams and aspirations.

At the age of 17, he and fifteen other young men had founded the fraternity Alpha Kappa Rho in the Philippines. This was during the tumultuous early years of martial rule in the Philippines. An organization formed out of necessity, dreams, aspirations and brotherhood. Now, almost 5 decades later, it spans worldwide with over 3 million members spreading humanitarian love, unity and peace around the globe. Edwin cared deeply about his brods.
Edwin then dreamt of coming to America. This was before any relatives of his were here. It wasn’t easy, he faced a lot of challenges. But he said that he did it because he knew it would open doors for his family. And it did for his siblings and kids.

He also had a dream for his whole clan and would talk about the golden days of his family. He wanted it back. One of his recent projects was in Bicol. He was focused on it because he felt it was something that would help the family shine again.

He would also share with his family dreams of putting the Filipino on the map. In America, he was a leader of the Filipino community, a past president of PAFCOM, and a member of KOR-NJ and JC Phil-Am Chamber of Commerce. He attended and organized events and befriended many in the community sharing good food, corny jokes, long drives, fishing trips and memorable moments that will be missed. He was always ready to help his countrymen and show his generosity and care for those around him.
He was always thinking of others: family, community and country.

The friends, community and family to cherish his memory are his mother, Annie; partner, Helen; siblings, Dennis, Anna, Bernard, Armand, Carmina and Evangaline, former wife Ramona and their children, Mary Anne and Oliver; and his granddaughter Lucille.
