Edward W. Claudius, 58, of South Williamsport, died Sunday, August 28, 2011 at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital.
Born September 20, 1952 in Williamsport, he was a son of Edward J. and Laura (Kramer) Claudius.
Ed was a 1970 graduate of South Williamsport Area High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University in 1974 and his Master’s Degree in Education from Penn State in 1975. Ed is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Delta Kappa. After graduating, Ed taught one year at Susquehanna High School in Harrisburg in 1976. In 1977 he was hired as the high school counselor, guidance department chairperson, at Montoursville High School and was named “2008 Montoursville Outstanding Educator”, before retiring after 33 years in 2009.
Ed truly bled Blue And White. He loved everything and anything that had to do with Penn State. He attended every home football game for 40 years, along with many away and Bowl games. Also many other sporting events and alumni outings. He loved Happy Valley and Joe Pa. Ed also had a passion for good music, good food, and political debates. He was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party and a proud supporter of the American Civil Liberties Union. He loved to read, especially “Hardball” by Chris Matthews of whom he was a very big fan, and to socialize.
Surviving are his mother Laura Claudius of Williamsport, a sister Elaine C. Payne of Linden, a niece Krishgen M. Payne of Williamsport, a great niece and nephew Xyla B. Payne and Xyon-Garreth Watts both of Williamsport, and many close friends.
