ED TREAT

IDAHO FALLS, ID — Edward Paige Treat, 68, of Idaho Falls, died due to complications of pneumonia, April 15, 2006, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Ed was born November 6, 1937, in Alva, Oklahoma, to Reverend Edward Straight Treat and Jenny Elizabeth Paige Treat. His family moved from Oklahoma to Burlington, Vermont, where Ed attended school during his grade school years. While in Burlington, he learned to snow ski at Stowe, Vermont, and was taught this sport by members of the US Olympic team. His family then moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where he graduated from Fargo High School and then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Dakota State University.

Ed played high school tennis and taught tennis for the city of Fargo during summer vacations. After his college graduation in 1960, he worked at the INL Site for various contractors for the next 33 years. While working at the INL, he met his future wife, Linda Haggard, and they were married June 17, 1967, in the Rose area near Blackfoot, Idaho. They lived in Idaho Falls 39 years, where they raised their two children. During these years he was an avid skier, fisherman, hunter and tennis player. After his retirement, Ed was a tennis coach and instructor at Apple Athletic Club. Over the years, he used his talents to teach the sport of tennis to many young people, of whom he was very proud.

Ed’s second avid passion was fly fishing and tying many different fly patterns. He loved collecting fur, feathers and yarn to tie new and different flies to try on the river. He spent many hours on the rivers, streams, and lakes of Idaho as his great enjoyment.

Ed had a special love for his family and is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Scott (Laurie) of Idaho Falls; daughter, Cydney (Eric) Mortensen, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and son, Ed South (Buffy) of Ammon. He was especially close to his grandchildren, Camden, Lauren and Olivia Treat and Ryan, Emily and Abigail Mortensen. Also surviving him are three brothers, Dr. Robert Treat of Sacramento, CA; James Treat of Walnut Grove, CA; and Dr. Daniel Treat of Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents.
