Edward T. Hoffman , 92

Guilderland Edward T. Hoffman , 92 ,of Winding Brook Drive, died Monday, May 9, 2005 at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany after a brief illness.

Born in College Point, NY, he was the son of the late Charles Hoffman and Elsa (Hartman) Hoffman and husband for 52 years of Carrie Myrdal Hoffman.

He had resided in Guilderland since May of 2000 and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the College of Insurance in Manhattan.

Mr. Hoffman served as a New York State Trooper from 1935-1937, serving on a detail that protected President Franklin Roosevelt while he was in residence at his home in Hyde Park, NY. He later was a member of the New York City Fire Department until 1957 and retired in 1977 as a Safety Engineer and Regional Manager of the Zurich International Insurance Company.

He was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, the First Church in Albany, the Mt. Dora Florida Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.

He is survived by two sons, Steven Hoffman of Guilderland and Roger Hoffman (Donna) of Brick, NJ; two grandchildren, Dennis Hoffman (Nicole) of Brick, NJ and Edward Hoffman (Angelina) of Toms River, NJ; three great grandchildren, Arianna, Nikolaus and Alexa Hoffman; two nieces and three nephews, Susan McKenzie and Trina, Walter, Randolph and James Myrdal and a cousin, Leroy Mears of Mt. Clemens, MI.
