Our American soldiers don’t fight because they hate what’s in front of them. They serve because they love what’s behind them. Edward Szachewicz loved and protected his country. He had a heart for the wilderness, and was an avid hunter and fisherman, that taught him humility, patience and balance through nature. Mother nature knows no right, mother nature knows no wrong. Consider the trees and how easily they let go of the season’s bounty.
On Saturday February 5, 2022 we learned how terrible it is to love something that death can touch. After 90 years, we let dad go from his home in Gloucester City. One day we will know how lucky we were to have known our dad’s love with wonder. Not grief.
Ed was born in Barrington, NJ and spent his formative years there. He enlisted in the military immediately after high school and his home had contributed to the manpower of our great nation, upholding the ideals of our American freedoms in Korea as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He had been a long time Gloucester City neighbor where he raised his family and made his career as a Postal Clerk in the Audubon post office.
Ed was a good dad. He was dependable and loving. He had been a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Camden, the Polish Americans Citizens Club of Camden County in Runnemede, the South Jersey Beagle Club in Southampton and the Bellmawr VFW Post 7410.
Mr. Szachewicz is the widower of his late wife Grace (nee McDowell) and is the father of Patricia & her late husband Norman Baker, Jr., Edward & his wife Sharon, Steven & his husband John, and Barbara & her husband Allan Westenberger. Ed is the proud grandfather of; Natasha, Joshua, Janine, Michele, Norman & his wife Megen, Erin, Allan, Alexa and great-grandfather of; Lukas, Tate, Tyler, Addison and McKenna.
