Edward F. Scygiel, 86, of Three Oaks, Michigan, died Monday morning, January 23, 2006, at Carol’s Home in New Buffalo.

Mr. Scygiel was born June 15, 1919 in Chicago to Andrew and Branislaus “Bernice” Scygiel. In 1922, the Scygiel family moved to Three Oaks where they owned and operated a fruit farm. Mr. Scygiel, a World War II veteran, was assigned to Company A 137 Armored Ordinance Maintenance Battalion. After serving his country, Ed worked for the Big C Lumber Company until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Scygiel has helped in building many homes in the area as well as taking part in building St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Three Oaks. He also did projects for other area churches as well.

On April 29, 1950 he married Rose Burdzinski at St. Mary of the Assumption Church where they were the first couple to be married in the new church as well as being life long members. Rose preceded him in death on June 14, 1998.

Survivors include his sons, Gregory (Betty) Scygiel of Sawyer, Michigan; Dennis (Kathy) Scygiel of Mattawan, Michigan, grandchildren, Mark, Michael, Laura, Karen, and Amanda.; great granddaughter, Olivia and his sister, Sister Dominica “Virginia” Scygiel of Mokena, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, son Larry, his parents and his brother, Walter.
