Edward Perks of Millbury passed away, surrounded by his loved ones, on Monday, February 21, 2022, in Milford Regional Medical Center, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of fifty-seven years, Louise Catherine M. (Cofske) Perks; a daughter, Catherine A. F. Perks; a close friend, William Breault; and one nephew and five nieces. He was predeceased by his parents: Charles F. H. Perks, Sr., and Margaret M. (Edwards) Perks, by three sisters: Margaret “Peg” Nickels, Elizabeth “Betty” Beaudette, and Muriel “Sis” Thibeault, and by three brothers: Charles F. H. Perks, Jr., Robert J. Perks, and Walter V. Perks.
Mr. Perks was born in Auburn on December 25, 1939, and was raised in Oxford; he moved to Millbury in 1966. He was educated in Oxford schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958. He was assigned to Ft. Kobbe, Panama Canal Zone; he returned to the U.S. and was honorably discharged in 1960.
Mr. Perks worked as an iron molder at Standard Foundry in Worcester for over 30 years before he retired in 1992 to earn his GED. From 1974 to 2017, he and his wife co-owned and operated Millbury-Auburn Taxi.
He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and was a Life Member of the Singletary Rod and Gun Club in Oxford. He especially enjoyed deer hunting with his buddies, Gerry, Jude, Tommy, Ikey, and Kevin. His favorite form of relaxation was sitting in his special chair and watching the birds at the many feeders in his yard. He also enjoyed watching the Red Sox with his daughter, Cathy. He was also a member of St. Brigid’s Catholic Parish, Millbury.
