Edward Paul Gocel was reunited with the love of his life Cheryl Shumway on August 17, 2021. He passed away at McKay-Dee Hospital Utah, from complication of Covid19.  He was born to Alexander and Sophie on January 15, 1941 in Binghamton NY.

Ed joined the US Air Force in 1959 where he proudly served our country with honor and distinction until his retirement in 1979.  He also retired from civil service at Hill AFB, where he worked as an Electronics Technician.

He loved supporting the Special Olympics and ran the Northern Utah Chapter with his wife Cheryl for 17 years and after her passing he continued to support Special Olympics. His love of golf and dedication to the Special Olympics led to the golf program for Utah Special Olympics. He had a great love for all the athletes and those that supported them.

He loved baseball, bowling and golf.  He was a great player in his day and played as long as he could. Ed loved golfing with his buddies and visiting with his friends at Sill’s Café.  He had many, many friends and was very proud of his Polish heritage.  He knew every Pollock joke and loved to make everyone laugh.

Ed is survived by his daughter, Kathy; her children, Cortney and Katelyn. His stepsons, Christopher, Zachariah (Shari); and their children Andy, Max, Sam, Joel, Ray, Stryder; and 3 great grandchildren; and his sisters, Dolores, Debbie; as well as Cheryl’s sister and brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.  He was preceded in death by wife, Cheryl Shumway; his parents; brother, Henry; and sisters, Helen and Irene.

Ed wanted it said, “The ornery old guy is gone.  I had a good life.  Love you all.”  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  Until we meet again.

Family and friends may gather Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.
