Edward (Eddie) Nathaniel Smith was born on July 31, 1957 in Georgetown, Guyana South America to the parents of Winslow and Elaine Smith (Solomon). He was one of nine siblings. As a child he attended St. Sidwell’s Primary School where he was involved with the Boys Brigaide. He enjoyed playing the drums and guitar, but he loved singing. He left Guyana in May of 1975 and settled in Maryland. He loved the USA and did not take for granted the value of his citizenship.
Eddie married Justina Baptiste and was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Evette. While in Maryland he had a passion for taekwondo and competed in several competitions. Education was of the upmost importance to him and he would spend several hours in the library with his head in the books. He worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Doctors Hospital, Sibley, and Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. Although he loved his career, he had a greater love for the Lord.
Devoted member of Loch Raven United Methodist Church for over 20 years Edward sang baritone in the choir. He was the rhythm of the church and would assist with bongos or symbols when he was not singing. He even tried to pick up playing the piano and harmonica. Some of his favorite songs were “Rock of Ages” and “Old Rugged Cross”. He helped with serving dinners at church and he was involved in Bible study and attended church regularly.
Edward loved classical, country and gospel music. People would always remember him by his warm smile and good sense of humor, he was very principled, however, he loved a good clean joke. Although Edward Nathaniel Smith departed from us suddenly, the love we have for him will live in our memories for a lifetime.
Edward will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Evette and her husband Brian Hill. He will also be affectionately remembered by his ex-wife Justina, siblings Vesta Schwartz, Barbara Wilson, Lynette Smith, Winslow Smith II (Boogie), John Smith, Fernne Smith, Shawn Geddes, aunts, uncles, cousins and several nieces, nephews, his church family and many friends. Eddie was predeceased by his parents Winslow and Elaine Smith (Solomon) and Wesley (Juggy) Smith.
