Edward (Ed) Morton Mitchke 75 passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. He was born in Red Lodge Montana July 7, 1935 to Milton C. & Peggy Lou (Morton) Mitchke.
He attended Kindergarten through High School in the same school of Saint Helena Cathedral, graduating in 1953. Being raised in a great Catholic family & always a Believer, Ed began his work in the church at the age of 8 becoming an Acolyte & for the last 19 years an Acolyte Trainer for his Beloved second home, The Pope John Paul II Catholic Church in Bigfork.
Going home to Montana to an unexpected early retirement, Ed repaired laser equipment & became known as “Religious Ed” & will forever be remembered by the students in his 10 years of Religious Ed Classes & Acolytes training classes. He loved setting the altar up, and helping in anyway with his Church.
In his early years, Ed also enjoyed being a Cub Scout as well as Boy Scout Leader, He was in the National Guard in Helena & then went into the Navy & later in life he became Exalted Ruler in the Elks in Denver & most recently a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus in Bigfork.
Ed loved his family & friends, loved to go boating, loved to always help out in anyway or anyone.
Ed was preceded in death by both his parents Milton & Peggy Lou Mitchke, Uncle Chet & Aunt Goldie Pitcher of Denver Colorado.
Ed is survived by his wife Millie of 52 years of marriage, son Edward (Ed) & wife Christie Mitchke, Houston, Texas, daughter Renee’ & husband Monty Howe, Kalispell Montana, daughter Kathleen & husband Wayne Waldon, Cloud Croft, New Mexico & 5 grandchildren Brooke Auston (Mitchke) Holder, Gautier Mississippi, Christopher Mitchke & Geoffrey Mitchke, Pearl Mississippi, & Nicole Howe, Kalispell, Montana, Edward Daniel Mitchke, Port Rush, Northern Ireland, Ed’s siblings brother Milton (Mick) & his wife Annette Mitchke, Pine Top Arizona, brother Gerald (Jerry) & his wife Kathryn (Kitt) Mitchke, his sister Margaret Ann (Margie) & her husband William (Bill) Murray & several nieces & nephews.
