Edward L. Stout, 78, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away Sunday morning, February 2, 2014 at Elkhart Hospice House.

He was born on January 11, 1936 in Ft. Wayne to the late Lawrence and Madelyn (Curley) Stout. In addition to his parents, a son Rick Stout preceded him in death.

Edward married his high school sweetheart, Shirley A. Higley on March 14, 1953 in Ligonier. Shirley survives, as well as two sons, Gary (Kim) Stout of Granger and Steven (Sharon) Stout of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Matthew (Val) Stout, Mark (Antoinette) Stout, Fred Betts and Arden (Katonya) Betts; and several great grandchildren. In addition, sisters Joyce Osborn of Kendallville, Elsie (Wilbur) Chupp of Goshen, brothers John (Mary) Stout of Topeka, Melvin Stout of Ligonier and Larry (Mary) Stout of Coldwater, Mich.

Edward worked for 24 years as a meat cutter for Wilt’s Super Markets. He and Shirley also drove for Jayco Inc. delivering RV’s. He retired from Metropolitan Title Co.  as a courier. Edward was a member of California Road Missionary Church.

Edward loved the lord and served him in many ways, the last 15 years during the Boardwalk Chapel services, where he played his mandolin to the accompaniment of his wife on the piano for the church services. Edward enjoyed woodworking and could fix just about anything.
