Edward Jelinek, 89, formerly of Three Oaks, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle, Indiana.Mr. Jelinek was born March 16, 1917 in Three Oaks, to Joseph and Anna (Kulka) Jelinek and graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1934. He married the former Margaret J. Horak on April 27, 1940 at the First Congregational Church of Three Oaks.
She preceded him in death on August 5, 2003.Mr. Jelinek lived in Three Oaks most of his life and was a self-employed farmer who believed strongly in the importance of conserving resources. He was one of the organizers of the Galien River Soil Conservation District, serving in many capacities for 40 years. He also was on the Berrien County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Board for 10 years, serving as its chairman for 3 years.Mr. Jelinek and his wife enjoyed square dancing and spent many wonderful winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. They returned to the area in September 2001 and made their home at Hamilton Communities in New Carlisle.
Mr. Jelinek is survived by his daughters, Nancy (James) Riemann of Wooster, Ohio, and Amy (Robert) Grey of South Bend, Indiana; sons, James (Teddie) Jelinek of New Buffalo, Michigan and Thomas (Marilyn) Jelinek of Three Oaks; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ernest (Geraldine) Jelinek of Sarasota, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his brother, John Jelinek
