Edward J. (Ed) Glamkowski 1923-2014 Remington– Edward J. Glamkowski, (90) of Remington, passed away Tuesday morning, May 20, at the George Ade Memorial Health Care Center in Brook, IN, from health complications following an automobile accident.
Ed was born August 16, 1923, in Thorpe, WI to Edward and Sophia Glamkowski. He was the eldest of two children. Ed graduated from Gilman High School in Gilman, WI in 1941. After working a few years, he attended Purdue University and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi. Ed earned his Bachelors Degree in Physical Education from Purdue in 1948. After graduating from Purdue, Ed started his career as a Physical Education Director with the Boys Club of America in Bristol, CT.
In 1956, he became the Executive Director of the Boys Club in Madison, IN. Then in 1958, he accepted an offer to become the Executive Director of a new Boys Club in Bellwood, Illinois. It was at the Boys Club in Bellwood, IL where Ed spent the majority and remainder of his career until he retired in 1985. Ed loved mentoring youth and believed in the mission of the Boys Club. Ed married his Purdue sweetheart Virginia (Jean) Shepherd in 1948 after he graduated. They spent the majority of their life together living in Lombard, IL. The couple had three children: Richard, Debra and David. After Ed retired, they relocated to Lafayette, IN.
Ed and Jean were married until she passed away in 1991. Ed married Marjorie (Marge) Arbuckle of Wolcott, IN in 1992. They enjoyed each other’s families and their life together in Remington. Ed loved serving alongside Marge at their church, Tri-County Bible Church of Rensselaer. Ed loved the Lord and would take every opportunity to share his faith with others. He had many interests, which included fishing, camping, photography, cooking, reading and watching sports especially the Boilermakers.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alyce; his first wife, Jean; and his son, Rich.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; his daughter, Deb; his son, Dave; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
