Edward James Darby, Sr., the youngest child born to the late Jeff Odell Darby and Johnnie Mae Freeman Darby on February 14, 1950 in Colbert County, Alabama. He departed this life on March 5, 2015 at Decatur Morgan Hospital at the age of 65.

Edward confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age at Zion No. 1 Baptist Church in Barton, AL.  He later joined First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia where he remained a number of years. After moving to Decatur, Alabama he joined Moulton Heights Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Big Springs Masonic Lodge #29.

Edward began his school years at Trenholm in Tuscumbia AL, and upon its closing he transferred to Deshler High School, Tuscumbia, AL where he graduated in 1968. He began his employment career at Colbert County Hospital in Sheffield, AL where he was employed as an Operating Room Technician for a number of years. He began work with Reynolds Metals Company in 1977 where he retired in 1999 when the plant was sold. He continued to work for Wise Alloys until October 2012 when he retired due to failing health.

Edward leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Edward James Darby Jr., Decatur, AL and TSgt. Eric Jamaral Darby, (Tyeesa), U.S. Air Force, Travis AFB, CA; three grandchildren, Evan J. Darby, Decatur, AL, Aliya L. Darby and Makiya D. Darby, Travis AFB, CA; mother: Johnnie M. Darby, Bridgeport, MI; two sisters: Ethelstyne Young, Bridgeport, MI, Linda Hollingsworth (Garl) Tuscumbia, AL; two brothers , John O. Darby, Chicago, IL; Raynard Darby, Saginaw, MI; two aunts, Nancy Loveless and Mattie Long (Floyd) Barton, AL; two uncles, Walter Freeman (Margaret) Florence, AL, Robert Butler (Shirley) Tuscumbia, AL; five nieces, Dewanna King (Eric) and Trishauan Raoof, Atlanta, GA, Joyalyn Hollingsworth, Tuscumbia, AL, Daphne Woods, Chicago, IL, Keita Willis (Jerry) Peoria, AZ; six nephews, Garl Hollingsworth, Jr (Rachel) Tuscumbia, AL, John Darby, Jr. Chicago, IL, Keith Darby (Margaret), Goodyear, AZ, Thomas Bivens, Danville, IL, Byron Darby and Anthony Darby, Chicago, IL; and a host of cousins and friends.

Edward was a wonderful father, generous and loving to his sons. He loved his three grandchildren and he will be greatly missed by them all.
