The highlight of Ed Bernius’s 96th year was his Honor Flight to Washington, DC with a planeload of other veterans.  He was one of two WWII veterans on the flight who were doted on and made to feel extra special for their service. Ed was like everybody’s dad and grandfather.  Volunteers clamored to push his wheelchair because he reminded them of their long-ago relatives.

Ed Bernius, recently of Highland, IN, passed away February 8, 2022. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, he spent over 60 years married to Frances.  They had three children, Roger (Joanne), Jean (Larry) and Nancy (Francois), two granddaughters Maria (Patrick) and Michele (Kris) and three great grandchildren Calvin, MacKenzie and Ruby.

A 75-year member of IBEW, Ed would regale his children with tales of working as an electrician all over the country. He was so proud of the buildings he wired.

He was a lifelong gardener, and could readily eat a whole bowl of cherry tomatoes at a sitting- “just like candy”.
