Edward Lee Grimm, the son of Eli and Lena (Banwart) Grimm, was born on March 23, 1935, in West Bend, IA. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1953. Edward served his country as an MP in the Armed Forces in Korea after the Korean Conflict and as a member of the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery in Fort Myer, VA. He was also a proud member of the American Legion.
Following his honorable discharge from the military service, Edward was united in marriage with Barbara Klepper on October 19, 1957. Barbara passed away on August 11, 1968. Edward met and was united in marriage to Donna Montag on November 15, 1974. From these marriages, 5 sons and 2 daughters were born. Edward’s work ethic led him to a career in farming until he “unofficially” retired at 62. In 1999, Edward and Donna moved to West Bend from the farm near Ottosen. He was an active member of St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church serving on various Boards and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Edward’s passion for sports and everything Hawkeye (Cubs as well) took him on many bowl trips and high school sporting events supporting his children and grandchildren. When not farming, he spent a lot of his leisure time golfing, traveling, and fishing. Edward is survived by his wife, Donna, and children: Sharon (Tom) Berte of Livermore, IA, Mike (Cindy) Grimm of Humboldt, IA, Tony (Kathy) Grimm of Ottosen, IA, Nancy Thul of Chanhassen, MN, Greg (Amanda) Grimm of Madrid, IA, Ryan (Megan) Grimm of Plymouth, MN and Cory Grimm of St. Louis Park, MN; 16 grandchildren: Calvin, Curtis, Adam, Travis, Jacob, Mary Jo, Michaela, Sarah, McKenzie, Ben, Sam, Alexandria, Kinnick, Gavin, Presley and Vivian; and 5 great-grandchildren: Brynn, Cole, Graham, Nile, and Tate.
Edward is also survived by 8 siblings, Lorane Martin, Arlo (Marilyn) Grimm, Delano (Mary Ann) Grimm, Dean (Nadine) Grimm, Eli Jr. (Margaret) Grimm, Carole (Larry) Fehr, LaVonne (Verle) Kieser, and Dianne (Marvin) Knobloch. Edward was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Barbara, his parents, and 4 siblings: Elaine Kellenberger, Clifford Grimm, Edith Kellenberger, and Eleanor Steffen.
