Edward F. “Koppy” Kopczynski, 85, of South Bend, Indiana, peacefully passed away at 8:13 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.  Edward was born on September 8, 1935 in South Bend to Valentine and Martha (Jasinski) Kopczynski, and was a lifelong resident.  He retired in 1995 from Yellow Freight, where he was employed for 20 years.  He had also been employed with Spector Freight. On October 8, 1960, in Our Lady of Hungary Church, he married Patti Rantz, who survives.  Edward is also survived by his son, Kurtis (Jeannie) Kopczynski of South Bend, Indiana; his daughter, Amy (John) Tatay of South Bend, Indiana; 5 grandchildren, Joshua, Allison and Melissa Tatay, Kailey and Michael Kopczynski.  He was preceded in death 4 sisters, Jane Wachowiak, Mary Witucki, Sally Karczewski and Anna Szalay; and 3 brothers, Joseph, Zygmunt and Stanley Kopczynski.  Edward was a member of Christ the King Parish.  He was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School. Edward served in the United States Navy and participated in Operation Hardtack test series of Atomic Weapons and Devices at Eniwetok Proving Grounds. He had been a member of the South Bend Transportation Club and a member and former president of the Michiana Traffic Club.  He was an avid Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears fan.  Edward enjoyed volunteering at Healthwin Specialized Care.
