Edward “Ed” Allen Pommerening, 75
Edward “Ed” Allen Pommerening, 75, of Kingston, Idaho, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from cardiac failure caused by a brief illness, on December 24, 2022 at the Shoshone Medical Center of Kellogg. He was born March 14, 1947 in Walla Walla, Washington; Ed was the son of Edwin and Grace Pommerening.
Ed attended and graduated from the McLoughlin Union High School of Milton- Freewater, Oregon. He attended the University of Idaho and received his Bachelors Degree in Agriculture/Forestry. Ed then proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Era in the 101st Airborne Rangers.
Ed moved to the Silver Valley in 1972, when asked to serve as a Forester for the Bunker Hill Mining Company.
Ed married Sandra Herrera on May 21, 1999 in Ogden, Utah.
Ed was a life-time member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He had also served on the Kellogg School District Board, the Shoshone Medical Center Board of Trustees, and as President of the Kootenai/Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District.
Above all, Ed loved and enjoyed his family. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cooking, off- shore ocean fishing for halibut and salmon and walking the mountains with his black labs.
Ed is survived by his wife Sandra of the family home of Kingston; four children Rachael and Cory Whitfield of Strasburg, Pennsylvania; Eric Pommerening and his fiancée Lisa James of Irving, Texas, Seth and Hilary Pommerening of Post Falls, Idaho and Jakob and Mary Pommerening of Lebanon, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren Zoe, Avry, Jameson, Emelia, Levi, Grace, Brynlee and Weston; one brother Ron Winkleman of Denair, California. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Theresa and one brother William.
