Edward Cohen, 95, of Quakertown, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Born in 1926, he was the son of the late Samuel and Esther (Schwartz) Cohen. He was the husband of Alberta Cohen. Ed was an iconic member of the community, known as much for his great sense of humor as for his devotion to his home town and his civic duty. He was always happy to listen and help his customers, dispensing thoughtful advice with their medicines.
Many customers made a special trip to the store to thank him after a remedy he suggested was successful, and it wasn’t unusual for children of customers to continue the tradition. He was always up for telling the newest or the oldest joke, the longer the payoff, the better. In fact, there were customers that came in daily to say hello and hear a joke. He loved to laugh and everyone in the store loved to laugh with him. Even after a hard day’s work, he would deliver prescriptions to the local nursing homes, and was happy to come out for an emergency when needed.
He was the only drugstore in town where the doctors had a direct line so they could call in prescriptions for their patients. His passion for antiques was always evident, and after he closed the pharmacy side of the business he continued to research and learn about the remaining antiques, curating what many came to regard as a museum. His curiosity was boundless, and he loved to share what he discovered about each item. It wasn’t unusual for him to give a store tour to antique buffs, and his pure enjoyment of the topic was contagious. It’s no surprise that some of his children inherited his love of antiquity.
