Mr. Edward Ciesla
Chemical Engineer Naugatuck – Mr. Edward Ciesla, age 83, died peacefully at home on Sunday, August 9, 2015 with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of 55 years of Shirley (Heavens) Ciesla. He was born in Coventry, Rhode Island on March 6, 1932, the son of the late Jacob and Anna (Kusiak) Ciesla. Edward graduated from Coventry High School and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. He was a member of the Engineering Honor Society and Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity while at U.R.I.. He later received his Professional Engineers License. While at U.R.I., he was a member of the Army R.O.T.C. and upon graduation he received a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at the Army Chemical Center in Maryland and was honorably discharged in 1957 as a 1st Lt. Edward worked for Uniroyal Chemical (now Chemura) for 42 years. He was a Project Engineer responsible for building several chemical plants in Louisiana and India. His work took him to many countries including South Africa, Russia, China, Japan and India.
