Edward C. Legner of Bay City, Michigan passed away Friday evening, May 4, 2012 at Brian’s House in Bay City, Michigan. Age 85 years. The son of the late Edward P. and Lena A. (Bullock) Legner. Born May 15, 1926 in Sterling, Michigan and resided in Bay City. He was an active member and supporter of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church and past member of the Athletic Club. Ed graduated from St. James High School in 1944, and served with the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. He pursued his education at the Industrial Institute in Chicago from 1947 to 1948. In 1948 he started his career in the oil industry at the Pure Oil/Union Oil Co. of California and retired from there in 1973. He continued on with his professional journey at the Rupp Oil Co. where he served as the Vice President of Operations from 1973 to 2010 and was also the Co-Owner of Standish Oil Co. and the Trading Post Store in Standish from 1976 to 1998. Ed then participated in a four member partnership to broker oil products to major accounts in Michigan. Over the years Ed served as the former President of Saginaw Valley Oil Men’s Club; Shamrock Club; past Chairman, past Secretary and Charter member of Michigan Trucking Association-E & M Division . He was a member of the Petroleum Association where he received the Pioneer Award-Special Service Award to the Petroleum Industry with over fifty years of service. Ed was a Life Member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge # 88, the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club; The American Legion Post 18; F.O.E. Aries 1010; an associate member of the Brotherhood of Fraternal Order of the Police and a former member of the Moose Lodge # 169 in Bay City. He also served as the Chairman of the Bay Medical Care Facility Millage Renewal. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling both foreign and domestic, playing cards and fishing. On June 12, 1948 he married his wife the former Dolores Frankowiak at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, she preceded him in death on June 22, 2007. Mr. Legner is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law; Paula and Tom Irish of Bay City and Linda and Thom McPharlin of Rochester Hills, MI, two grandchildren; Kristen McPharlin and Jonathan McPharlin and his wife Cristina, one great grandchild; Christian McPharlin, one brother; Kenneth Legner and one sister; Shirley Gray and many nieces and nephews.
