Edward Biagio Derrico, 91, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of the late Betty Jean (Zerbey) Derrico, who passed away on April 30, 1999. Born in Bethlehem, he was one of thirteen children, born to late Biagio and Louisa (Cantelmi) Derrico. Ed was a graduate of Liberty High School and Kutztown University.
He honorably served his country with the U.S. Navy on the USS Mannert L. Abele during WWII. Ed worked for the Commonwealth of PA as an auditor for the office of unemployment for many years until retiring. He was a parishioner of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church where he was an alter server. For years, he faithfully opened the doors of the church at 6am every morning.
He was a selfless man and was affectionately known by many as “Uncle Eddie” and “Pop-Pop”. He enjoyed watching high school and collegiate wrestling, reading and crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed Italian music, pasta, breads, and sweets. His greatest love was for his family and his faith. Survivors: He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Margo Derrico-Boyer and her husband Michael of Lower Saucon Twp., Mary Jo F. Fillis and her husband Richard of Bethlehem; sons Blaise E. Derrico and his wife Kathleen of Houston, TX, and Richard S. Derrico of Bethlehem; sister Edith Flick of Bethlehem; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, with 3 more on the way. He was predeceased by 11 siblings.
