Edward A. Schierer, 95, of Metamora passed away at 8:21pm Saturday February 11, 2012 at Snyder village.
He was born on June 27, 1916 in Metamora the son of Edward and Pauline Gangloff Schierer. He married Geraldine R. Minger on April 24, 1941 in Metamora. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons Donald (Rita) Schierer of Wichita, KS and their children Eric Schierer and Erin (Kyle) Dorgan; Douglas J. Schierer of Citrus Heights, CA. One daughter Karen (Bill) Kaliney of South Bend and their children Kelly (Kevy) Feirerstein, Ryan (Emily) Kaliney, and Sean Kaliney. Further surviving are 3 great grandchildren Mila Feierstein, Sage Feirerstein, and Evie Kaliney. 4 brothers and 3 sisters preceded him in death.
Ed was a graduate of Browns Business College in Peoria. He then worked for 12 years in management at Colonial Bakery in Peoria. He relocated along with his family back to Metamora where he had several business interests, including real estate development, he was responsible for the first curb and guttered streets in town beginning with Michigan Ave.
He worked as the CFO for Universal Life Insurance Company in Peoria that later merged with Frontier Insurance Company in Jefferson City, MO. Before retiring in 1978
As a family they took vacations and saw many of the Western National Parks, as well as trip to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. Ed and Gerry moved in 1988 to Snyder Village being the first Cottage Residents.
