Edna Ruth Cross (Seaton) was born August 23, 1941 to loving parents, Ned and Maggie Bell Seaton of Jackson, Mississippi. Edna attended school in Jackson before marrying John Cross in 1956 and later moving to Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago, Edna became a mother to her only child, the apple of her eye, Lisa Cross. Edna became a grandparent to four kids; Sean, Ameshia, Tikia and Twan Cross, whom she helped raise and loved dearly. She is also a great grandmother to CJ and Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Cross, daughter Lisa Cross and grandson Twan Cross.
Edna was a strong woman of faith and could often be found reading Scripture, listening to gospel hymns and studying the Bible. She loved the Lord and her faith guided everything she did.
Edna took being a mom seriously. She not only put her all into her daughter Lisa but also her grandkids who fondly called her “Nana” when they weren’t referring to her simply as mama because for them they were blessed enough to have two moms. Edna never left her daughter or her grandkids’ side. She was their rock and nothing brought her more joy than her family.
Edna loved and she loved big, but she smiled even bigger. She was a giver and expected nothing in return. Edna was selfless and full of wisdom. The kind that only comes from taking the hard hits and rising above each and every time.
Edna loved her siblings, to which there were many and she also loved her friends. Particularly Charlene Cunningham. Edna called Charlene her sister and in every way Charlene stepped up and acted as a sister and best friend.
On August 8, 2022, God called his faithful servant Edna home. She was 80 years old. Edna will join her husband, daughter and grandson singing hymns before the Lord and watching over us all. Edna’s cherished memory is held closest by her grandchildren, surviving siblings Beatrice, Eunice, Randy and Jerome, her closest friend and soul tied sister Charlene, and the many souls her life touched. Edna will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
