Edna Mae Murray-Nelson of Fayette, Missouri was called home to our heavenly father on her 71st birthday surrounded by loved ones. She was one of 10 children born to the union of Everett & Lillie (Martin) Murray. Edna was born January 21, 1951 in Cherryville, MO and passed away January 21, 2022.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; one daughter, Tonya Marie Murray; her brothers, Clifford Murray and Raymond Murray; sisters, Henrietta Juede, Rosetta Schneider, Alice Murray, Erma Skinner and Enkie Rutko; along with many much-loved nieces and nephews.
Edna leaves to cherish her memory, her soulmate & husband William E. “Bill” Nelson of the home; one son, Mark Allen Nelson of Charleston, WV; daughter, Carri L. Murray of Columbia; granddaughters, Alexandria Paige McBride of Columbia, and Mercedes Lynn Snyder; brothers, Herman Murray and Randy Murray; and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
She was no stranger to health problems, having been born with a congenital heart defect. After having a challenging childhood her heart was repaired as an adult; “Doctors patched it up with bubble gum” her Pop’s said. When she found out she was pregnant with Carri, doctors said she and her baby would never make it since the previous death of her first born Tonya. Edna would not have had it any other way but to risk her own life for Carri, and she survived.
Edna worked at the Biscayne Wal-Mart for many years where she had many co-workers she called family. After that, she worked for the University of Missouri at University Hall where she also had many co-workers she called family. She also spent many years employed with the state of Missouri working at Mid Missouri Mental Health Center. One job was never enough for Edna; she had many other side jobs that kept her busy throughout her years. These continued even well into her retirement.
She was unstoppable and always on the go. Her and Bill loved to travel. They would hop in the car not knowing where they were going just said we will call you when we get there. When her nieces and nephews came to town you knew there was always going to be an adventure. From bingo nights, casino trips, or midnight shopping at Wal-Mart, you never knew where the night was going to end. Edna loved going out of her way to do for others. She loved her veterans and was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Edna will be deeply missed by many friends and family. The family would like to thank MU Health Care physicians and staff for all their care and support during the many long hospital stays these past few years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Edna’s honor to the family
