Edna Michelle Taylor Masanilo, known to many as “Lady,” passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021. Edna was born on Saturday, July 1, 1967 in Bynum, Texas to her parents, Jimmy Lee and Pearl Mae Taylor. As she grew up, Edna loved music and having fun! Her smile and laugh could make anyone happy. Edna graduated from Hillsboro High School and later became a truck driver. She traveled thousands of miles in her red Peterbilt truck and used the handle “Sugar Bandit” over radio channels. “Lady” and “Sugar Bandit” were just a few of the nicknames Edna acquired over the years. Many people also called her “Granny,” “Mommie,” and especially “Mama Edna.” Her handle of “Sugar Bandit” was quite accurate with her love of sweets like oatmeal pies, Little Debbie snacks, Star Crumbles, and Hoho Rolls. However, one of her best sweets was her famous peach cobbler! Edna was a great cook, and her family enjoyed, not only her peach cobbler, but also her homemade fried ribs, chicken dressing, and greens. Other foods she enjoyed were different types of seafood like shrimp, oysters, and scallops. Edna also treated her family to delicious cocktails. As the family’s bartender, Edna fixed Rum & Cokes, Paul Masson with Coke, and much more, but each drink was guaranteed to have a little umbrella garnishing it. Another way Edna liked to treat her family was by throwing fun, memorable parties. She did many themed parties, but her favorite kinds of parties were Halloween parties and Mardi Gras parties. Edna loved to don on costumes and try out new themes and decorations. Not only were these parties fun, but more importantly they brought the family together. Edna loved being with her family whether it was listening to music, playing games like rummy, tunk, Jenga, and quarters, and taking road trips. Edna lived a life full of passion! She was most passionate about her family and having fun, but she had so many other joys in life! Edna liked to go to pool halls to dance and enjoy music. She liked meeting new people wherever she went and could make friends with strangers like nobody else could. Edna was very creative and loved to show off her creativity through art projects and crafts. Not only did Edna have a beautiful collection of friends and memories, but she also had a collection of elephant pictures and figurines. Unlike most people, Edna had a green thumb that helped plants flourish under her care. Some of her favorite things to grow were ivies, vegetables, pineapples, avocados, and strawberries. Edna was also very passionate about her faith. She was a proud Christian who loved on people and served others with a warm and willing heart. Edna taught so many to love life, and her impact on others will never be forgotten.
Edna Michelle “Lady” Taylor Masanilo is survived by her children, Desiree Taylor, Danyell Taylor and his wife Lacey, Donovan Lewis, and godson Robert Taylor and his wife LaTasha; her grandchildren, Jaleel Taylor, Ashanti Fields, Diamond Taylor, LaTroy Taylor, and Ei’Monnie Taylor; her great-grandchild, A’Zariyah Mathis; her siblings, Beulah Lewis and Gwen Wooldridge and her husband Allan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edna Taylor Masanilo is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy Lee and Pearl Mae Taylor;her siblings, Jimmy L. Taylor, Jr., Archie Taylor, and Jeanetta Taylor; and her nephews, Jimmy L. Taylor, III and Bryan Tillman.
Edna Taylor Masanilo will always be remembered for her love for her family, her faith, her smile and laugh, and her unique passions that made her life beautiful and wonderful.
