Ann McNair, 87, died November 30, 2017, at Town and Country Manor in Boerne, Texas. Born December 7, 1929, in Rochester, Texas, Ann graduated as class valedictorian from Rochester High School in 1946 before attending Hardin-Simmons University. While at Hardin-Simmons she was in the HSU Cowgirls, involved in the school newspaper, and she met and married fellow HSU student Dalmon Moody McNair in 1950. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from HSU in 1950. Ann was a journalist by trade, but worked in medical dictation in Tyler, Texas, and later in Hammond, Louisiana. She started a kindergarten at First Baptist Church of Hammond, where she was the primary instructor for several years. She served as the Assistant Director of Publications at Southeastern Louisiana University, before moving back to Texas in 1982. In 1982, Ann became the editor of the Boerne Star newspaper in Boerne, Texas, where she worked alongside husband Dalmon (the managing editor) until they both retired from the newspaper business in 1993. A two-time cancer survivor, Ann was very active in the American Cancer Society, and in her church, First Baptist of Boerne, and in her last years she led Bible studies at Town and Country while a resident there. She won several awards for her writing, in which she specialized in human interest stories and local color.
She was preceded in death in 1994 by her husband, Dalmon. She leaves behind a brother, Jack Carothers of Big Spring, Texas, and three children, retired Army Colonel Philip McNair of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Kathryn Ford of Abita Springs, Louisiana, and youngest son Dr. Chris McNair, of Abilene, Texas. She had six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
