Edna M. Anderson of Melbourne, FL peacefully passed away Oct. 25, 2015, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family and friends. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Robert C. Anderson. Her daughter, daughter in law, and son will carry on the torch. They will hold a private memorial in her honor.

Edna bravely battled bladder cancer for 6 years. Despite her increasing challenge with restrictions and pain over this time period, she prepared for every day with a smile and a smart outfit. Hospice (Vitas) was with her to assist her departure with dignity and grace, and by the way, she left with a grin.

On August 31, 1937, Stanley and May Woyner brought Edna into the world in Portland, Ct. She spent her formative years there before furthering her education at Upsala College in NJ., achieving a degree in English. Her innate and acquired skills were a valuable asset to her employers in the Guilford School System, as she worked for various principals and ultimately for the superintendent.

Meanwhile, she married Bob in 1959, had two children and resided in Wallingford, Newtown and Guilford Ct., with a two year stint in Naperville, Il. These numerous moves did not disrupt the family traditions. Upon Edna’s insistence, the household always included a canine companion. With mutual retirements, Bob and Edna were Floridian “snowbirds” in Vero Beach. Lastly, they found “a hurricane safe” residence in Suntree of Melbourne.

Edna was a skilled and passionate gardener. While residing in Ct., she was a very active member of the Guilford Garden Club. Her passion for gardening continued in Florida, albeit “a bit trickier than in New England,” but within a few years, her neighbors can attest to her successes. Her attention to detail extended to her immaculate home as “she had a place for everything.” How she kept up with the white carpets and dogs, we may never know.

Edna’s downtime was filled with reading mystery novels, playing classical piano, joining friends for mahjong or cards, and volunteering for hospice in the administrative arena.

The family would like to thank the staff, doctors, nurses and the many caretakers of the most recent organizations, Viera Hospital, Senior Partners and Vitas (hospice) of Melbourne, Fl., as well as those who helped her during her courageous journey.
