Uncasville, CT – Edmund F. Sirpenski 92, of Hoscott Drive died Thursday morning, May 30, 2013 at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.
He was born exactly 92 years earlier on May 30, 1921 in Norwich son of the late Peter and Amelia (Bartolowicz) Sirpenski. Ed attended Norwich Schools before entering into the United States Army on Feb. 10, 1941. He was involved in the African, Middle Eastern, Normandy, France, Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe campaigns of World War II. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army on October 22, 1945, Edmund became a railroad man/ brakeman for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad. He retired from Conrail after many years of service.
On January 4, 1947 he was united in marriage to Winifred E. Gladue in Norwich. Mrs. Sirpenski survives her beloved husband of 66 years. Ed was a communicant of St. John’s Church in Uncasville. He was a member of the VFW Post594 and the American Legion Post 4 of Norwich. Mr. Sirpenski was an avid coin collector. He loved to be outside, gardening or just sitting in the sun.
In addition to his parents, Ed is predeceased by a Great granddaughter, Mackenzie Guillet, his brothers, Frank, Stanley and Peter Sirpenski and his sisters Annie Barrett and Frances Adams.
Mr. Sirpenski is survived by three children, Maureen and her husband Michael Bourret of Canterbury, DeeAnne and her husband Frank Brennan of Uncasville and Gary Sirpenski of Groton, a step daughter Carolyn and her husband James Melvin of Florida, ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
