Edmond Perry McLarry, longtime Boerne resident, passed away January 19, 2018 at Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, Texas.
Perry was surrounded by family, loved ones and his beloved wife of 41 years, Nancy Clare McLarry (nee Polk).
Perry was born November 5, 1933 in Dyke, Texas and is preceded in death by his father Lloyd McLarry, mother Edith Dove McLarry (nee McKinney) and brother William Robert “Billy Bob” McLarry.
In 1951, Perry graduated from Jefferson High School, San Antonio, Texas. His favorite subjects were math and science. He completed some college at St. Phillips before joining the workforce full-time. His earliest jobs included working as a Warehouse Manager for Knowlton Dairy and as an Airplane Mechanic at Kelly Air Force Base. In 1953, he joined the US Air Force where he served both stateside and overseas for eight years as Staff Sargent. During his military career, he was awarded the following medals – United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. For the next 26 years, Perry was an Air Traffic Controller at San Antonio Texas International Airport. Not a man to be idle, upon Perry’s retirement from the FAA, he worked as a Gunsmith at Don’s Gun Shop in San Antonio, followed by several jobs in Boerne, Texas including hardware manager, general contractor, carpenter and handyman.
Perry’s many interests included hunting, fishing, nature watching, camping, carpentry, leather work, crosswords and puzzles. He gave unselfishly of his time and talents to anyone in need and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his family and friends. Perry was known by Boerne residents as being humble, unassuming, quiet, kind, sharp, witty, and generous.
Perry is survived by his children: daughter, Donna McLarry Gutierrez; daughter, Leslie McLarry Luther and her husband Phil Luther; son, Patrick Foy McLarry and his wife Gayla McLarry; his stepsons: Robert Eric Fields; Mark Alan Fields and his wife Marsha Fields; Brent Edward Fields and his wife Dana Warren-Fields; Jeffrey Scott Fields and his wife Diana Fields; and also by his niece, Janie McLarry Cook.
Perry is also survived by fourteen grandchildren – Jenna Nicole Gutierrez, Justin Zachary Gutierrez, Travis David Luther, Garrett Edmond Luther, Melissa Rose McLarry, Matthew Eric Fields, Tyler Robert Fields, Jennifer Nicole Fields, Joshua Levi Fields, Lauren Avery Warren-Fields, Alexandra Elizabeth Hatcher, Steven Russell Fields, Christopher Scott Fields, and Michael Adam Fields.
Perry is additionally survived by nine great-grandchildren – Leila Kay Gutierrez, Amelia Rose Gutierrez, Colette Amelia Luther, Perrie Leigh Luther, Magelyn Kay Fischer-Fields, Madelyn Jay Fields, Myree Kenyon Zolliecoffer, Ryan Patrick Fields, and Aidan Nicholas Fields.
Mr. McLarry’s cremains will be interred at Fort Sam Houston on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 1:15 p.m. with full military honors.
