Edith Sue Cook Nagy peacefully departed this life on May 17, 2014 at age 97. She was born February 10, 1917 in Alice, Texas to George and Gertrude Cook. She grew up in Cotulla, attended Draughn”s Business College, worked in the LaSalle County Clerk”s office and eventually met and married Louis Nagy in 1939. they were station in For Reno, OK during WWII where Louis served as a Quartermaster Remount Officer. Louis and Edith moved to Boerne in 1949 when Louis was hired to manage the 711 Ranches. Edith was the quintessential rancher”s wife who raised the children, and maintained the home, canned garden produce, and insured her home was a loving place when she often hosted the Nagy and Cook clans on special occasions and holidays. Edith and Louis lived on the 711 Ranch for 47 years and saw it grow to 14,000 acres becoming one of the larger ranches in Kendall County. After Louis retired from ranching, they moved to their new home adjacent to the 711 Ranch which is still the family homestead. Edith”s hobbies were fishing, sewing, reading, and cooking. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1949 and was a long time member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She was an active member of the Kendall County Historical Society where she served in several offices and received the Distinguished Service Award in 1998. She was also a member of the Boerne Garden Club , a book circle of avid readers, and enjoyed playing Chickenfoot dominos with a group of her lady friends. She was a former resident of Heritage Place Assisted Living where she served as a member of the new resident welcoming committee and finally Kendall House Nursing and Rhab at Morning side Ministries. Wherever she went, people were touch by her loving nature, positive attitude, and big smile. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Gorge Cook and Bill Hinnant and her husband, Louis. She is survived by a son, retired Army MAJ Edward Nagy (Darla) of Fort Smith, AR; a daughter, Mary Ann Vallad (Jerry) of Black River, MI; three grandchildren, Steven Nagy (Sandra) of Belton, TX, Brad Watson (Jennifer) of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Stacey Lockhart (Tim) of Van Buren, AR; two great-grandchildren, Kendall Nagy and Ryan Lockhart; plus a number of loving nieces and nephews. As the reigning matriarch of the Nagy family, she was revered by all.
