Winchester – In her 101 years as daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Edith was nurturing, supportive, spunky, generous, respectful, polite and loving. Of course that was before her fall at 97 years of age. The after-effects of that fall stole everything. Even to the very end though, her family meant everything to Edith.
Edith Silvestri was born on January 6, 1917 in Revere, MA, the daughter of two Italian immigrants, Nicoletta and Euplio DelVecchio. Edith had five brothers and sisters who supported each other throughout their lives; James, Florence, Anthony, Benjamin and Marie. She married a good man, Antonio Silvestri, who sacrificed nearly everything for his family. Together they raised three close-knit children in Winchester; Loretta, Tony and Roberta. Edith cherished and helped support six wonderful grandchildren; Paula, Joe, Michael, Hilary, Nicole and Mark. She doted over each of her fifteen great-grandchildren; Michael, Allison, Jonathan, Tyler, Lydia, Nicholas, Benjamin, Liam, James, Rory, Audrey, Courtney, Anthony, CJ, and Sammy. And Edith loved each of her extended family members; Paul, Boomsa, Tony, Kelly, Kathleen, Jim, and Pam. Edith will always be remembered by her family for her inspirational words of wisdom, words she kept prominently displayed on her refrigerator such as: “It takes a lifetime to build a reputation, only a minute to destroy it”, “Tell me WHO your friends are and I will tell you WHAT you are”, “Education is not what makes you great; heart is what makes you great”. Her life and words shaped her family members’ lives.
Edith was a special gift from God. Her life made a difference. One great-grandson’s lasting expression of love remained indelibly etched in Edith’s brain to the very end of her life and needs repeating , we will never forget you.
The family of Edith Silvestri wishes to thank the compassionate staff of The Oasis at Dodge Park. They provided loving, respectful and dignified care for Edith with remarkable joyful spirit.
