Edith Mackey-Shields, 90, of Bloomington passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Richland Bean-Blossom Health Care Center. Born, on March 6, 1923, in Brown County, she was the daughter of William Bryan White and Elfie (Day) White.
She was later raised by her step-father, L.W. Sciscoe, and her mother. Edith graduated from Southport High School in 1941. In 1946, Edith and her husband, Herman E. Mackey Jr. moved to Bloomington and acquired the Varsity Studios at 103 and a half W. Kirkwood Ave from her father. Edith also worked for Sarkes Tarzian, sold Avon for 35 years, and retired from the Indiana University Printing Plant. Edith married Floyd Shields in August 1961, who became “Dad” to her two sons. Edith and Floyd vacationed all over the U.S. and loved each other for over 34 years. Floyd preceded her in death in 1995. Edith loved the Lord and all his beautiful creations. She enjoyed planting flowers and decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas.
Edith is survived by her two sons and their wives, Herman E. Mackey Jr. II (Rose), Wilbur N. Mackey (Norma), and a step-daughter, Alice Shields, and her husband Mike. She was also blessed with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Stokes-Jackson.
