Edith Ward, long time Rupert resident passed in her sleep on March 7th, 2 months short of her 93rd birthday.
Although Edith, known as Mae to her family, has been living in Wendell since the passing of her husband Harold in 2008, she considered her home to be their farm near Norland and not a day went by that she didn’t miss being there.
Edith was born in Parma, Idaho and grew up with 4 younger brothers near Jordan Valley. She met her husband Harold while working at Simplot’s packing in Caldwell.
The couple raised their 2 children on the farm in Rupert and remained there until Harold passed away and the family decided it was better for Edith to be closer to town. Edith was less than enthusiastic about that decision and reminded her family of it often.
When in her 80s, Edith spent many hours remembering her life and “writing her memoirs”. Turns out she was quite the spirited rebel in her younger years. She and her best friend her cousin Wanda were always involved in some shenanigan.
Edith had many hobbies. She was a seamstress, a taxidermist, a trap shooter, and a sculptor. She made beautiful patchwork quilts and enjoyed silk embroidery artwork. There was always some sort of project going.
Edith always said she was going to live to be 100 but that plan was not to be. She missed her husband greatly and is now again at his side.
Edith is preceded in death by her husband and 3 of her 4 younger brothers. She is survived by her children Earl Ward of Hammett, Deann (Scott) Shillington of Hayden, grand children Hayley (Drew) Hanson Spokane Valley, WA and Keagan (Carlie) Shillington of Post Falls. She is also survived by her youngest brother Jack of Whitebird, Idaho.
