Our beloved mother, Edith Christine Hood, died peacefully in her sleep at Morningside Manor in San Antonio on the morning of November 7. John, her husband of 64 years, her sister Erma, her brother Richard and her granddaughter Katherine Beckett Hood, preceded her in death. Survivors include her two sons, Dell J. Hood of Wimberley and Keith B. Hood of San Antonio, and her granddaughter Jennifer Christine Hood of Grand Prairie, Texas. Edith was born on December 5, 1918 in Darmont, Pennsylvania, the first child of Kenneth and Anna Coster. She married John Jackson Hood III in 1939. In 1950, she and John moved their family from the Philadelphia area to Boerne, where they settled on the wooded acreage west of Boerne that would be their home for more than half a century. During the Korean War, Edith worked with the ammunition section at Camp Stanley between Boerne and San Antonio. She later transferred to Kelly Air Force Base where she worked until she and John”s retirement in 1979.
