Edith Eurine Crichlow was born on September 27, 1942, in Christ Church, Barbados. She was the eighth of eleven children, 8 boys and 3 girls, born to Malvin and Iris Drayton. She attended St. Bartholomew’s Girl School and was a member of Providence Methodist Church. She also worked in the hotel industry where she enhanced her skills in cooking, sewing, and pastry making.
In 1968, Edith relocated to the U.S. where she met and married her husband Clarence Crichlow in 1973. They were married for 45 years prior to his passing in 2018. They both attended Siloam Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Edith was a strong supporter of the ministries of the church. She was an usher, an active member of the Presbyterian Women’s Association, and baked cakes and cupcakes for the church’s Coffee Hour. She was also a member of St. John’s Recreation Center and participated in the 2009 senior Olympics. Edith worked for the Stevens for many years and was considered part of their family. In 1988, she started working for NYU as a nurse’s assistant and retired in 2009.
Edith enjoyed sharing her gift of cooking with family, friends, and neighbors. She loved shopping, gardening, dancing, and traveling.
On Friday, June 9th, 2023, Edith was gently ushered into the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at the age of 80. She is predeceased most recently by her husband, Clarence Crichlow, and her siblings, Vere Carter, Clyde Drayton, Carmen Archer, and Yvonne Carter. Left to cherish her memory are her children Beverley Drayton, Dr. Brendaly Drayton, Christina Crichlow; her brothers Charles Drayton and Anthony Drayton, many nieces and nephews in the United States, Canada, England, and Barbados; other relatives, church members, and friends.
