Edith Ann (Chomer) Osowski, 83, residing in South Bend and formerly of Elkhart, died peacefully late Tuesday evening, Jan. 3, 2012, at Morning Crest Nursing and Memory Center in South Bend after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Edith was born Nov. 4, 1928, in Chicago, to the late Edward and Marie (Zahringer) Chomer. She married Edward Anthony Osowski on Feb. 7, 1948, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Elkhart. He passed away Feb. 12, 1997.
Survivors include three daughters, Rita Tatum and Bridget (John) Sovinski of Mishawaka and Carmel (Joe) Alby of South Bend; and three sons, Edward (Rebecca) Osowski of Elkhart, Timothy (Alana) Osowski of Jilemnice, Czech Republic, and Matthew (Kim) Osowski of Elkhart. Surviving also are 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a brother, Edward (Frances) Chomer of Goshen.
Preceding her in death was a son, Daniel Joseph Osowski, and a sister, Marie (Chomer) Campbell.
Edith was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was active in the Daughters of Isabella, the Rosary Society and Women of the Moose. She worked at Rollie Williams Paint Spot, helping customers in Elkhart and South Bend with interiors for 13 years until her retirement. An accomplished artist, Edith produced many lovely drawings and paintings. She enjoyed gardening, particularly her prized roses, and watching the birds at her many outside feeders and bird baths.
