Edgar Smith was born in St. Patrick’s Grenada, West Indies on December 21, 1936 to MacDonald Bellingy and Ena Smith. He was one of seven beautiful children.

Before moving to the United States, he lived and got married in Trinidad, West Indies to the “love of his life”, Theresa Smith who passed away on July 19, 2014. Together they had six children – three boys and three girls. The eldest, Merrill Smith Logan, passed away in 1986 at the age of 29.

In 1961, Edgar and Theresa moved to the Island of Trinidad where he connected with his first cousin Roselyn. Edgar and Roselyn, he had a strong bond from childhood and grew up as siblings rather than first cousins – the kind of bond that shared the same generational ties, closeness in age and life experiences. For several years thereafter, their close-knit relationship resulted in the two couples – Edgar and Theresa, Darrell and Roselyn sharing everything together, from activities, cooking, living in the same house, traveling and raising a family. Because of the relationship between the two couples, traditions and memories were established that shaped their children’s life, from childhood into adulthood.

Seeking a better life for themselves and their children, they migrated to the United States in 1968 with Darrell and Roselyn McCall. The couples remained close knit and as always lived together in one dwelling.

On July 26, 2018, Edgar met and married Pearl Jones. Pearl and his daughter Denise became his constant companion, primary caregivers and homemaker, waiting by his side as his health began to deteriorate. Edgar’s health started to slowly decline in October of 2020 after losing his right leg due to diabetes. He was admitted to Orlando Health for about a month and from there was admitted to a nursing facility for about nine months. His will to continue living as an amputee seemed to diminish after his final diagnosis to amputate his left leg. The family realized it was time to honor his wishes and forgo any additional procedures that would have caused him to lose his left leg.

He is survived by his loving daughters; Denise Smith and Sonia Hamilton, his sons – Roland Smith, Errol Smith and Edward Davis.
