Edgar (Eddie, Ed) Jones Crook

August 15, 1945 – March 12, 2022

Ed Crook was born to Bill and Sue Crook on August 15, 1945 in Jacksonville, FL. He was the youngest of five boys and grew up in the Lakeshore area.

In 1964, Eddie graduated from Nathan Bedford Forrest High School as a three-sport letterman. He attended Gulf Coast Junior College on an athletic scholarship and was the catcher for the Commodore’s baseball team. Ed also served as a reservist in United States Army.

By chance, Eddie met the love of his life and soulmate, Judy Langston, when she and her friend were driving on Main Street in Judy’s brand new Camaro. Then they stopped at a red light and next to them were Ed and his friend, who were also in a Camaro. They all drove to the nearby Burger King and their history began.  A few months later, he proposed at Memorial Park and they have been together for more than 53 years. Their life was richly filled with adventure and love.

Eddie was the proud and loving father of three children, Angela, Melissa and Ryan. He was a doting grandfather to five granddaughters (Erica, Sophia, Marlee, Olivia and Karsen); two grandsons (Eddie and Jason) and three great-grandsons (Sterling, Duncan and Chuckie).

Aa an avid outdoorsman, Eddie enjoyed hunting and fishing with his cousins in Georgia.

Eddie played men’s city league baseball at Woodstock Park for many years, where he made lifelong friendships with his teammates. Ed and Judy were regulars at Trivia Night. They would meet their special friends to play in and around Orange Park.

St. Augustine was a special place for Ed and Judy. They vacationed there often by themselves and with friends enjoying the beach views, Matanzas River and local restaurants.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, William M. Crook, Sr. and Susie Carter Crook; his brother, Charles “Charlie” Elmo Crook; sisters-in-law, Margaret “Peg” Crook and Priscilla “Pat” Crook.

Eddie will be lovingly missed by his beloved wife, Judith Langston Crook; children, Angela (Richard) Hill, Melissa (Kyle) Strickland and Ryan (Christina) Crook;  grandchildren, Erica Sammons, Eddie Sammons, Jason Archer, Sophia Strickland, Marlee Crook, Olivia Strickland and Karsen Crook; great-grandchildren, Sterling, Duncan and Chuckie;  brothers, Billy (Tanya) Crook, Monty (Kathleen) Crook and Paul Crook; sister-in-law, Marsha Widdows; numerous nieces and nephews; and his devoted and loyal best friend of over 40 years, Dave Pickard.
