Edgar Dee Wilson, 95, Crawfordsville, passed away Saturday at his residence. Born Sept. 17, 1918, at Hillsboro, to Clyde and Bertha (Bowman) Wilson. A graduate of Hillsboro High School class of 1936; he married Janet L. Murdock on Feb. 15, 1941.

He worked at RR Donnelley & Son for 43 years, retiring March 1, 1981, and then worked for B&L Engineering, and finally Stevenson’s Ace Hardware for several more years.

Edgar was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a deacon, was on the property committee, and delivered Meals on Wheels. He also had memberships with, The American Legion, VFW, Eagles and Elk’s. His past memberships include, Donnelley Club, where he served as president, Jaycees, Senior Men’s Golf Association and Johnson Rags Dance Club.

Edgar served on the Crawfordsville Board of Zoning Appeals. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart, serving overseas from May of 1944, to April 1946. After four months of Infantry Training, Edgar served 10 months in combat as a Rifleman PFC, 276th Infantry Regiment, 70th Division, then as a heavy truck operator transporting mail, weapons and personnel with the SS Quartermaster Car Platoon in European Theater of Operations for nine months. Throughout his life he made many friends in the community and was known as a very kind and gentle man. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 72 years, his family and friends.

Edgar loved fishing, golfing, gardening, dancing and spending time with his family.

Edgar is survived by his wife Janet; four children, Eddie (Gemma) of Wingate, Gary (Pat) of Bloomington, Bryan (Cheryl) of Rossville and Janelle Turner (Don Wilkinson) of New Ross. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl and Lloyd; two sisters, Catherine and Ruth; and great-grandsons, Zachary and Kolton Turner.
