Edgar C. Birch, 69, of Ashland, IL died Monday, February 9, 2009, at his residence. He was born February 26, 1939, in Falls of Rough, KY; the son of James Russell and Agnes Rae Kiper Birch. He married Sandra L. Hammack on June 10, 1957, and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Wesley C. Birch (wife, Michelle) of Springfield and Terry L. Birch of Port St. Lucie, FL; four grandchildren, Jennifer Roberts (husband, Jason) of Ashland, Jeremy Birch (wife, Sheila) of Lincoln, Dustin Birch serving with the USMC stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and Michael Birch of Springfield; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Swift (husband, Lonnie) of Caneyville, KY, Betty Harvey (husband, Wayne) of Leitchfield, KY, and Diane Geary (husband, Danny) of Caneyville, KY; two brothers, Russell Birch (wife, Hazel) of Sherman and Thomas Birch (wife, Eleanor) of Mason City; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Birch farmed in the Athens area for several years prior to joining the trucking business. Since 1970, he was been a semi-truck owner and operator until his retirement in June of 2001. During his retirement, he has been employed part-time with Prairie International of Springfield and Springfield Tractor Trailer.
