Eddy A. Hakola, 88, of Sand Coulee, passed away July 5th, 2014 at a local care facility after battling lung cancer.

On January 24, 1926 Eddy Arthur Hakola was born to Matti and Hilma Hakola in Sand Coulee, Montana. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged after two years of service aboard the USS Kittson. Upon returning to civilian life, Eddy worked on farms as a cattle rancher and also served as a Sheriff’s deputy for Cascade County for over sixteen years. After his retirement, he continued to farm and ranch his own land up until his death. He was the kind of man who would help anybody who needed it.

He married Lola Lencioni on June 9, 1962. They were blessed with 39 years of marriage and three children. Eddy was a member of the VFW, Eagles, Centerville Senior Citizens, and Holy Trinity Parish and was the “Widow Wagon Driver”. He enjoyed fishing, wood-working, traveling, and watching western movies with his little dog, Lady. Survivors include daughters, Kathleen (James) Salaun and Elaine (Richard) Walters; son, Bob (Bonna) Virostko; as well as nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and special friend, Mervine Yurek.

Eddy is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, as well as 14 brothers and sisters and his special friend, Marthele Soha.
