Eddie Ray “Pete” Vairo, 69, went to be with his Savior Jesus on May 9, 2016. Pete was born on March 4, 1947 to James Peter Vairo Sr. and Wilma Rubye McFarland in Williamson, Iowa. Pete was united in marriage to Linda Kaye Celander on January 29, 1966. To this union two children were born, Lynda Lorene and Johnny Ray.
Pete worked and retired from the VA Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa. Pete was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished every moment he spent with his family. He loved them unconditionally. His love was not limited to just his wife, children and grandchildren. Pete had a special place in his heart for his nephews and great nephews. They never called him Uncle Pete, they called him Pa. Other nieces and nephews will remember Pete for the special hand shake he saved just for them. He loved having his Grandson Christian living with him and through this special relationship and his Grandsons care, Pete was able to stay in his home despite his many health problems. Pete spent many hours enjoying the outdoors with his Granddaughter Amber.
Pete was a born again Christian who was faithfully determined to spread the love and grace of his Lord, Jesus Christ to everyone he could, his faith never wavered. He loved having Bible studies in his home and when he was able, going to others’ homes to read the Bible and pray. One of his greatest hopes was for everyone he met to see Jesus in his life.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda, his daughter Lynda Lorene, four brothers, Wayne Vairo, James Vairo Jr., Donald Vairo, Gari Vairo, and one sister, Jayne Owens. Those left to rejoice in knowing Pete is at home with his Savior are; his son Johnny (Nicole ) Vairo of Chariton, Iowa, sisters Marguerite ( Mike) Claflin of Scottsdale, Arizona, Joan (John) Amos of Chariton, Iowa, Carole (Joey) Farrell of Chariton, Iowa, Cynthia (Gerald) Briggs of Russell, Iowa, Merrijo (Earl) Ellis of Chariton, Iowa, Geri ( Tiggy) (Bud) Prothero of Chariton, Iowa. Grandchildren Christian, Amber, Sammi, Dustin, Lynn, Nicole, and Christopher, 6 Great Grandchildren, special nephew Tyler Vairo, and special Great Nephews Brandon, Casey, Dominic, and Maddox and special niece Heidi.
