Mr. Wilson peacefully passed away at a local hospice facility. He is the widower of the late Vetta Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a longtime member of Bethel Memorial A.M.E.

EDDIE C. WILSON was born April 11, 1921 in Beaumont, Texas to John H. Wilson and Rosa Smith. He accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at a young age in Beaumont, where he also began his education. The family later moved to San Diego, California, where he continued and completed his formal education.

 On May 11, 1943, Eddie enlisted into the United States Army’s All Colored Army Unit as a Rifleman.  He served with pride and dignity during World War II in the Pacific Theater on Guadalcanal.

 On May 11, 1946, Eddie united in marriage with the lovely Vetta Hallie Meyers. Their union was blessed with forty-seven years of happiness before her death on February 11, 1993.

 Eddie has been a member of Bethel Memorial A.M.E.

Eddie was a member of Guiding Light Lodge #7 working under the Most Worshipful Harim Tyre Grand Lodge of California Ancient Free and Accepted Masons for over forty years.  He served on various committees and became the Rite Wishful Master of the Guiding Light Lodge for a number of years. He continued his work as the District Deputy Grand Master. Eddie served on various committees in the Grand Lodge both elected and appointed and became a 33rd Degree Mason. He was Past Master of Alpine #7; Past Ponente of Mojave Temple; Past District Deputy; Past Grand Lodge Officer and a Senior Deacon.  He was a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite Free Masons. He participated in numerous community events on behalf of the Lodge.

 Eddie also worked with the San Diego Padres since their first day in San Diego.  He could be found outside of the Padres Clubhouse for twenty years.  He accumulated years of memories, including interacting with stars of the Negro Leagues and throwing out the first pitch before one of the games.

 God called Eddie C. Wilson to eternal rest on April 19, 2014. Survivors include his nephews, Edward (Agnes) Edmondson, James Edmondson, Willie Edmondson, King Glover and Michael Nathan; nieces, Betty (Nathaniel) Luke, Shirley (Clarence) Moore, Patricia Jackson, Daisy (James) Due and Sandra Nathan and a host of other relatives and friends.
