Earl Wayne Scherbinski, November 28, 1937 – June 26, 2017.

The gates of Heaven opened and SFC. (Ret.) Earl Wayne Scherbinski (Ski) went to be with his Lord on Monday, June 26, 2017. Born in Walker, South Dakota on November 28, 1937 to Leonard and Lena Scherbinski, Ski joined the Army in 1955 at the age of 17. He served in Germany, Greece, and in Vietnam where he earned a Purple Heart as well as the Bronze Star. Some of the units he served with were the 101st Airborne, 82nd Airborne, and the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam.

Upon retiring from the Army after 22 years of service, Mr. Scherbinski became an International Licensed Counselor for Drug and Alcohol Abuse for the civil service at Ft. Hood, Texas, retiring after 18 years in 1995 for a total of 40 years of federal service for a country that he loved so much. He met Jean Tomasek on October 1999 and they were married on June 20, 2006.

Ski was preceded in death by his father Leonard and mother Lena Geotz, step father Ted Geotz, and a stepson Michael E. Tomasek.

He is survived by his wife Jean Scherbinski, one daughter Kathy Ayers of Houston, Texas, six sons, Tad Scherbinski and his wife Sharon of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Troy Scherbinski and his wife Barb of Jacksonville, Florida, Ty Scherbinski of Bismark, North Dakota, Jordan Scherbinski and son of Xanthi, Greece, Russell Tomasek and his wife Tammy of Belton, Troy Tomasek of Temple, as well as 20 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, four sisters and three brothers.

Ski loved his country and life so much, he always said that God kept him here on earth just so He could have a good laugh.
