Earl Richard Pryor was born on July 11, 1949 in Morgan County, Alabama to the late Rev. Leroy and Lorene Avery Pryor. He departed this life on June 12, 2016 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus.
He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh M. B. Church, where he sang in the choir. He was ordained as a Deacon in August 1984. He accepted his calling to the ministry and pastored Little Zion Church for many years. He attended the Decatur City Schools and graduated from Lakeside High School Class of 1967. He completed his undergraduate studies at Calhoun Community College and transferred to the University of North Alabama in Florence, AL where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting with a minor in Sociology. He joined the United States Air Force, where he served in the capacity of Administrative Specialist, and as an Air Force Special Security Officer. He earned many awards and accolades during his service including the promotion of Sergeant in 1976. He enlisted for two more years, retiring in 1978.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Viola Jones; brother, Clarence Jackson; and grandson, Curtis Jackson, Jr.
Rev. Pryor leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted and caring wife, Ida Pryor of Decatur; a daughter, Lashonda (Curtis) Jackson of Montgomery, AL; stepchildren, Tiffany, Catanna, Cassandra, Angela, and Savannah; two sons, Cornelius and Willie Harris all of Decatur; three sisters, Gwendolyn Hall of West Bloomfield, MI, Alfreda Pryor of Chicago, IL and Belinda Pryor-Shoulders of Decatur; one brother, Leroy James Pryor Jr. of Decatur; one uncle, James Pryor of Cleveland, OH; 21 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
