Edward Stephen “Steve” Smith 78 passed away peacefully Sunday November 29th, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise, ID. He was born in West Warwick, Rhode Island on New Year’s Day in 1937 to Velma and Edward Stephen Smith Sr.
He served 2 years in the Army.
He then became a consultant for Power Engineers in Hailey, ID. He met his future wife Trish Faubion Freebairn and they married in 1991. They opened a high-end antique store in Bellevue and traveled extensively throughout Europe buying containers of antiques. Dad was passionate about restoring old cars. He spent 20 years restoring a 1956 Ford Customline. It was his pride and joy. He finished it just months before he died and took first place in the first and only car show he had it in. Dad enjoyed many hobbies over the years. He raced horses, framed houses, managed boxers, bottled pasta sauce, piloted planes and loved books.
Dad was a wonderful storyteller. He was so descriptive when telling a story. He had a dry sense of humor and wit which was often misinterpreted. Dad’s always thoughtful and caring advice will be greatly missed. We will always hold him close within our hearts. He has 7 grandchildren and a brand new great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Greg.
