E. Louise Holycross, 98, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday evening, March 15, 2011, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 21, 1912, in South Whitley to Clee and Inez (Marrs) Younce. She married Foy E. Holycross on Sept. 15, 1940, in Elkhart. He passed away March 7, 1987.

Surviving are her daughters, Judy (Rudy Gourdine) Ashley of Edwardsburg, Mich., and Mary (Tom) Williams of Bristol; five grandchildren, Kevin (Carrie) Zemanek, Karen (Larry) Ponko, Jennie (Mike) Howard, Ryan (Sharon Scott) Williams and Julian Gourdine; and seven great-grandchildren, Rich Bontrager, Jamee and Allison Ponko, Stephanie Zemanek, and Kyah, Drake and Wade Howard. Louise was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Younce.

Please join with her family and friends and celebrate her life from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 403 W. Beardsley Ave., Elkhart, IN 46514, with calling one hour prior to services. The Rev. Bill Hemmig and the Rev. Jay Morris will officiate, with burial to follow at Rice Cemetery.

Though totally blind for more than 40 years, Louise continued to enjoy life with her family and friends. She was a homemaker, enjoyed knitting as a hobby and formerly worked in the sales department as a clerk-typist at Martin Band Instrument Co. Louise was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the American Council for the Blind.
